Surfing in El Salvador (Surf City) || What’s it Actually Like!?

Before the world’s best descended upon the cobbles at Punta Roca, I spent two weeks in El Salvador, getting waves and eating my body weight in Pupusas. El Salvador is my favourite country in Central America and while it certainly comes with the crowds, there are so many waves to choose from and an almost endless supply of Pacific swell. Here are some insights into what to expect from a surf tri...

Surfing Nicaragua’s “Private” Beachie… (VLOG EP8)

Hey guys! Welcome to another VLOG Episode. Playa Colorado is one of the best (and most crowded) waves in Nicaragua. But it’s a break where accessibility becomes an issue. The beach resorts here don’t allow anyone to access the beach with surfboards from the land (seriously, they check your car at the gate), so the only way to surf it is by walking from a neighbouring beach or boat. Hey guys! In my years of surf travel, I've found some places to be friendlier than others when it comes to surfing and localism. North Spanish living in Australia since 2016. I can agree with Portuguese and Canary Island shit vibe but I cannot believe that someone from Vic threaten a surfer to not post a photo on Instagram. There are no secret spots here, unless he went to the most remote waves in the south west coast, but even though no one would say anything like that.

    Please start crowding other spots as west sumbawa, krui, west java, sumba, red island...bukit is already too crowded...let's spread a little...and don't come with the bullshit talk about keeping spots secret...in 2024 this is absolute lame talk. Surfing is what it is now: a sport of kooks... want to surf uncrowded waves? Get yourself in a 4/3 suit and stop pissing others in YT comments section.

    wow seems like latin people (spanish, portugeuse, french, chilean, etc) are pretty aggro? At least they handle their problems in the water and don't go for lawsuits or windshield waxing or tire stabbing. CA locals are pussies who do shady stuff like that. I'm hoping Chile was first on your list because its the least of the problems, and the only place on your list I actually want to visit to surf.

    I recently (2021) lost a good mate to a white bite while we were surfing, it was not murky, it was shallow water (no coming from underneath). Not surfing alone. No attacks had ever been reported at that beach before. It was purely "wrong place - wrong time" There's not a lot of data on attacks during these assumed water conditions to avoid. So while it seems logical to avoid these conditions I don't think it really makes any difference. From many of the most recent white attacks on the AUS NSW coast none of these conditions were present. For my mate, It was an unfortunate investigative bite that took his femoral artery. Simply bad luck of the worst kind! I was lucky enough to be surfing a different beach that day so I'm glad I didn't see it or I might not still be surfing.

  • @sk82nil8
    @sk82nil8 2 дні тому

    Good Summary and pretty accurate too, I've lived and surfed a few of these places and currently live in a place where 20 years is still not long enough to be considered a local. But I don't care, I never really have any issues with anyone. I liken surf-lore to the wild west. People can and do get away with all sorts of stupid shit, and it really brings out the worst in some people. Just like the wild west, you need to avoid some people, let them have their waves and don't get upset about it. It's not a democracy. they will keep doing it regardless of what you do or say. Just like the wild west, unless you're willing to fight them, just let them be, it's not worth it. The best way to get back at them is to surf better than them, So get better at surfing (elsewhere if you need to) and let your surfing do the talking. Continue to be courteous and respect other surfers, this WILL be noticed and returned. The wild west is still a great place where everyone CAN get along and build unforgettable memories!

    Oahu south shore summer seasons are usually very underwhelming, we are lucky to get waves over 3 to 4 feet one time each month in the summer (unless you go to bowls where the swell is magnified and usually a foot or two bigger than any other spot on a given day). This month in particular has been non stop pretty solid swell but it is looking like after this swell hitting now it is going to go dead for the foreseeable future up to about three weeks. Really good for longboarders but if you are a shortboarder I wouldn’t even bother coming to Oahu during summer. Btw you should turn on the bowls cam some time in these next few days on the higher tide of the day and see how good that wave is!!
